According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental disorders are characterized by significant changes in a person's cognition (way of thinking), emotional regulation or behavior. They are a sources of suffering and major impairment in various areas of functioning, such as family and friend relationships and work and/or study performance.
The role of the psychiatric evaluation is to help the person identify and describe their suffering, make a diagnosis, and design a therapeutic plan that best meets their needs. Considering that mental disorders affect several aspects of life, treatment should aim not only at improving symptoms, but also quality of life.
Below are the most common mental disorders:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Bipolar Disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Eating Disorders
Substance use disorders are part of complex mental health challenges. These disorders have multifactorial origins and involve aspects beyond physical dependence. It is essential to consider social, relational and general health impacts during assessment and treatment.
It is important to highlight that many individuals experiencing these disorders may also have other psychiatric conditions. Therefore, we approach treatment in an integrated manner, focusing on both the issue of substance use and concomitant mental health conditions.
Our treatment also covers behaviors that can lead to behavioral addictions. We are always expanding our knowledge and approaches to include the latest research and best practices in mental health.
With a caring, evidence-based approach, our goal is to help each individual find their path to recovery and well-being.
A branch of psychiatry focused on the elderly's mental health. Some mental disorders manifest differently at this age and it is important to identify them properly. In addition, treatment must be adapted to respect the body's physiological changes and to avoid interactions with other common age-related illnesses.
